Introduction:

Edegra 100 is a medication prescribed to address erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men. Its mechanism involves enhancing blood flow to the penis, facilitating the achievement and maintenance of an erection. Belonging to the phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE 5) inhibitors group, Edegra 100 can be taken on an empty stomach or with a meal. It is crucial to strictly adhere to your doctor’s advice regarding its usage. Ideally, it should be taken approximately one hour before engaging in sexual activity. The duration for its effectiveness may vary from person to person, typically ranging between 30 minutes and 1 hour. Notably, this medication only aids in attaining an erection when sexual stimulation occurs. It is important to note that Edegra 100 is not intended for individuals without erectile dysfunction. Furthermore, it should not be consumed more than once per day. Common side effects may include flushing (a sensation of warmth), headache, dizziness, blurred vision, muscle pain, stomach upset, and rash.

If any of these side effects cause discomfort or persist, it is advisable to consult your doctor. Edegra 100 is not intended for use by women, and men should avoid using other impotence treatments without prior consultation with a medical professional. Concurrent usage with nitrates (often prescribed for chest pain or angina) can be hazardous. It should be avoided by individuals with severe heart or liver problems, recent history of stroke or heart attack, or low blood pressure. Prior to taking this medication, it is essential to inform your doctor about any existing health conditions, including the aforementioned ones. If Edegra 100 induces dizziness, it is advisable to refrain from driving. Additionally, consuming alcohol while taking this medication increases the likelihood of experiencing side effects.

Brief Description:

Edegra 100 is indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension. It can be administered with or without food. The recommended adult dose for erectile dysfunction is 50 mg, to be taken approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. The dose may be adjusted based on individual response, but the maximum dose should not exceed 100 mg within a 24-hour period. For individuals above 65 years of age, a lower initial dose of 25 mg is recommended. In cases of hepatic impairment, an initial dose of 25 mg is advised. For pulmonary arterial hypertension, the recommended dose is 20 mg to be taken three times daily with a gap of 4-6 hours between each administration. For patients with renal impairment, the dosage adjustment is recommended based on the creatinine clearance (CrCl) level. Edegra 100 is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity and those concurrently or intermittently using organic nitrates in any form. It acts by inhibiting phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5), which results in increased levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the corpus cavernosum, leading to smooth muscle relaxation and enhanced blood flow to the penis.

Precautions should be taken when using this medication in patients with anatomical deformation of the penis or conditions that may predispose them to priapism. Mild and transient impairment of color discrimination (blue/green) may occur. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic or severe renal impairment, bleeding disorders, active peptic ulceration, hypotension, recent history of stroke, myocardial infarction (heart attack), arrhythmias, unstable angina, heart failure, or retinal disorders. Sudden loss or decrease in hearing may occur. Common side effects include headache, flushing, epistaxis (nosebleed), dyspepsia (indigestion), insomnia, erythema (redness), diarrhea, dizziness, and skin rash. Edegra 100 exhibits interactions with inhibitors of CYP3A4, such as cimetidine and erythromycin, which may decrease its clearance. CYP3A4 inducers like rifampicin can reduce the plasma concentrations of sildenafil. Concomitant use of beta-blockers can cause symptomatic hypotension. Ritonavir can increase the plasma concentrations of Edegra 100. It is potentially fatal to combine this medication with organic nitrates and nicorandil due to the potentiation of hypotensive effects.
