Therapeutic Class
Herbal and Nutraceuticals, another antibiotic descriptionLive microorganisms that can improve the balance of the intestinal microflora and benefit the host upon ingestion are known as probiotics. Lactobacillus species, Bifidobacterium species, and yeasts are examples of such microorganisms. Lactobacillus acidophilus, a member of the Lactobacillus genus, gets its name from its rod-like shape and acid-loving nature. It is present in a variety of foods, including dairy, grain, meat, and fish, as well as in the human (and animal) intestines, mouths, and vaginas. Lactobacillus bulgaricus, which is used in yogurt production, is a gram-positive rod that feeds on milk and produces lactic acid to preserve it. It is often helpful for people with lactose intolerance. Bifidobacteria, on the other hand, are normal inhabitants of the human and animal colon, and their name is derived from their bifid shape. They are non-motile, non-spore-forming, and catalase-negative, and can be found in breast-fed infants within days after birth. Thirty species of bifidobacteria have been identified to date.
Dosage & Administration
